If you’ve ever worked with a life coach, you know the answer is DUH! (Unless that wasn’t your experience…in which case, may I highly recommend a wonderful coach
)
I recently had my first handful of sessions, and yowza! What a radical experience.
At the start, I was, in a word, chaotic. I didn’t know what I wanted, where to start, how to commit. I was more focused on challenges than opportunities. I was resistant to dictate the session’s flow, to say what I wanted to accomplish during our session..I didn’t trust myself to know what was best. I was frustrated at my lack of direction, resistant to committing to a schedule, and caught off guard by overwhelming waves of emotion, both during our sessions and outside of them.
Some sessions were phenomenal – energizing, uplifting, joyful. Others were super emotional, filled with frustration, tears, and an eventual sigh of relief. But all of them were transforming.
Right from the beginning, my coach helped me to identify roadblocks to my success: my negative self-talk, fear of commitment and limiting beliefs, to name a few. But recognizing them was just the beginning – he helped me find ways to combat these things, real solutions that have proven successful for me.
I could go on for days about what coaching did for me, but here’s the short answer: It transformed me from an indecisive, self-defeating commitment phobe to a capable, brave, empowered woman. I feel more able to make decisions and stick with them, to speak my truth, to take responsibility for my life and choices.
As nice as the short answer is, I don’t think it will really help you. At this point, you don’t know HOW this partnership changed me.
…Which is why I’m gonna break it down for ya! I came up with 4 very concrete ways in which coaching changed my life-
I:
1. Learned to work with my commitment issues. Commitment to projects and goals, in this instance.
2. Proved to myself that I can overcome resistance – even the strongest, arm-twisting kind.
3. Discovered the importance of getting clear about my expectations.
4. Began to own my personal power.
Tune in next week for an in-depth post on each topic. I’m SO excited to share these with you; for me (and I hope for you), they were total game-changers.
So I’ll see ya next week… Have an incredible weekend!
Peace, love and a steaming cup of Zen,
